Clinton Global Initiative

In 2005, President Bill Clinton established the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to create and implement innovative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. CGI members include corporations, non-profits, foundations, individual philanthropists, celebrities and thought leaders from around the world. American Electric Power joined this initiative in 2007 developing a Commitment to Action to help create or enhance work environments for approximately 20,000 employees and contractors across our 11-state service territory. Through a comprehensive Green Building & Environmental Stewardship Initiative, the development of existing natural green spaces into learning environments for children, and issuing a call-to-action to more than 5 million residential, commercial and industrial customers to take measures to become better environmental stewards; successful implementation helped lower energy consumption (electricity, water, etc.); reduce solid waste; and create fewer emissions from more than 400 facilities in the AEP system (excluding power plants).
